Emerson WARD b. 1817 Harwood Dale near Scarborough, Yorkshire, son of Dennison & Elizabeth (Emerson) He married in 1837 Hannah WILLIS, b. 1811 Yorkshire. They emigrated to America in 1838 and lived in Illinois 1846. Times were hard and they spent every last penny on doctors and medicines. They raise a little money and a team then moved to Iowa and farmed there for 10 years. In 1856 they moved to Grundy Co., Missouri and settled in Taylor Township, where they had a 300 acre farm, well stocked. They had 7 children. Hannah died in 1875 aged 64. Emerson remained a widower until his death. He was well known as a public spirited man, a kind neighbour and good citizen. He lost several valuable horses during the Civil war, they having been taken by bushwhackers.
